FAQs 

  • What do you do if it rains?
    In our experience, visitors often have just as good a time when it is raining as long as they are well looked after. All are advised to bring warm clothing, suitable footwear and we supply waterproofs where necessary. All of our outdoor activities are designed for a variety of conditions with high quality equipment that can withstand the elements.
  • What are your instructors like?
    All our instructors are full time permanent members of staff. Every instructor is experienced outdoor educator with a passion for ‘all things outdoors’. We have a mix of trainee instructors who are trained in-house and qualified instructors who have been through our extensive training scheme. All instructors are First Aid qualified and DBS-checked.
  • Where is High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre?
    We are 5 miles from Skipton & Keighley in Cowling, North Yorkshire. It is roughly a 1 hour drive from both Leeds and Manchester. Our address is: High Adventure OEC, 233 Keighley Road, Cowling, North Yorkshire, BD22 0AA.
  • Do you have internet access?
    We have WIFI throughout the indoor centre. We often limit access to visiting students to ensure they fully engage with the activities and get the most out of their visit.
  • Do you have a tuck shop?
    There is a tuck shop in both the Centre and the Nook. We stock a variety of snacks and drinks along with souvenirs for visitors to remember their trip. We allow the visiting schools to operate the tuck shops themselves at times that will best suit their group and programme.
  • What are the bedrooms like?
    We have two accommodation buildings; The Centre and The Nook and each building is set-up dormitory style with bunk beds
  • Are you AALA licensed?
    Yes, for climbing, canoeing, rafting and walking. Our AALA can be downloaded on the trip resources page.
  • Do you have a TV?
    Yes, our communal rooms have a TV, although in our experience there is not a great deal of time to watch it!. Our activity programmes are designed to keep our visitors very active and busy.
  • What's the food like?
    We strive to provide delicious and nutritious, healthy meals with plenty to eat and all freshly prepared by our professional catering staff. We also provide fresh fruit, tea, coffee and squash throughout the day. The current menu is available here. We can cater to a host of dietary requirements such a halal, gluten-free etc – however we must be made aware prior to your visit in order to appropriately prepare. Please note that we cannot guarantee an allergen free environment, please contact us directly if you have any concerns regarding this.
  • What makes High Adventure different to other centres?
    High Adventure was originally set up by ex-teachers with an ethos that every child matters. High activity levels and fun/stimulating activities are an absolute MUST. We are passionate about educating others in all things outdoors in the hope that our passion will help to encourage others to take up some or all of the activities we teach.
  • Are your staff DBS Checked?
    Yes, all of our staff are DBS checked.
  • Can you cater for children with SEND needs
    We cannot cater to young people that require a higher level of care. This includes behavioural, social, emotional and physical needs.
  • Where is High Adventure?
    We are located in Cowling, around 10 minutes from Keighley. Our address is: High Adventure OEC, 233 Keighley Road, Cowling, North Yorkshire, BD22 0AA.
  • What age is the holiday club suitable for?
    Our holiday club is suitable for all children age 7+
  • Do you provide lunch
    To keep the cost down, we ask that you send your child/ren in with a packed lunch and drink bottle.
  • Do you offer a sibling discount?
    Our sibling discount is 5%, first child for a single day will be £25 p/d 2nd child & further children £23.75 pp p/d. For the week 1st child is £100 p/w second child & further children are £95 p/w.
  • Do you take childcare vouchers?
    We aren't able to accept childcare vouchers as we are not Ofsted registered. We don't require to be Ofsted registered as our holiday club is for children age 7+. All our staff are DBS checked and fully qualified.
